The update to iOS / iPadOS 14.2 can be downloaded and installed directly from the device. To do this, go to Phone / Tablet Settings, General and Updates. At the end you have to press Download and install. The second way is to connect the device to your computer, launch Finder, choose your iPhone / iPad from the list, then click General, select Check for Updates and accept.
The iOS 14.2 update includes over 100 new emojis and eight new wallpapers, as well as iPhone enhancements and bug fixes.
The iOS 14.2 update includes improvements and bug fixes for iPhone. Additionally:
- Over 100 new emojis, including animals, food, faces, home appliances, and musical instruments, as well as inclusive and more.
- Eight new wallpapers available in both light and dark versions.
- The Magnifier function on iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max can detect people nearby and inform about the distance to them using the LiDAR sensor.
- iPhone 12 is compatible with a leather case with MagSafe.
- Optimized battery charging minimizes the amount of time AirPods are fully charged, slowing down the aging process of the battery.
- Headphone audio level notifications alert you when too loud a volume may be affecting your hearing.
- New AirPlay tools let you stream content throughout your home.
- The Intercom function can deliver messages to HomePods and HomePod mini via iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods and CarPlay.
- Apple TV 4K can play stereo surround sound and Dolby Atmos on the HomePods.
- Possibility of anonymous sharing of Exposure Notification statistics with participating health authorities.
This update also includes bug fixes that could cause the following issues:
- showing apps in the Dock in the wrong order on the Home screen.
- black screen after starting the Camera application;
- Avoid keystrokes on the lock screen when trying to enter a code;
- set reminders to a date or time in the past by default;
- empty widget of the Photos application;
- displaying the maximum temperature in degrees Celsius in the Weather application widget, despite setting the unit as degrees Fahrenheit;
- incorrect precipitation end time in the precipitation graph in the next hour (in the Weather app);
- interrupting voice memo recording by incoming calls;
- black screen while playing Netflix video;
- Apple Watch app quits unexpectedly after opening it;
- no synchronization of GPS data of training routes and health data between Apple Watch and iPhone for some users;
- incorrectly labeling audio content as “Playing” on CarPlay desktop;
- no wireless charging of devices.
