iOS 15 messes up your iPhone’s home screen (but…)

Apple announced a slew of new iOS 15 features during de WWDC21 keynote this week. The company introduced new features with FaceTime, among other things, but also seems to change the home screen.

Since this week, iOS 15 has not only been announced, but developers can also get started with the first beta version of the operating system. This ensures that more and more small features are emerging that were not announced during the big keynote. Something that also applies to this addition of the home screen.

Thanks to iOS 15, it is possible to place the same icon on your home screen several times. So if you wanted the shortcut to OMT nine times on one tab, then that is theoretically possible. It may sound nonsensical, but it does give you a little more options. Especially now that you can make the home screen your own with the help of widgets.

In iOS 14, an icon on one page disappears if you want to place it on another page. That can be disturbing, because sometimes it is useful to have a certain app in two places. iOS 15 makes that possible, although it is currently questionable whether it is really the intention.

Lots of developers to report that this capability doesn’t really feel like a feature. It is even expected that Apple will end it in the next iOS 15 beta, as it would be a bug. Still, the reactions are quite positive and Apple might consider leaving this “function” in question for what it is.

What else does the system have to offer?

There are, of course, tons of other things iOS 15 tackles. For example, there are several FaceTime functionalities that are extremely interesting, Apple tackles various standard applications and it is possible to stream content to your Mac.
