Investors left ChatGPT, the reason is unique

Jakarta

A member of the board of directors OpenAImaker ChatGPT, resign. The reason? Do you want to create another artificial intelligence (AI) startup?

He is Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, who has been injecting funds and advising OpenAI since it was first founded, namely in 2015. He stepped down because his venture capital firm called Greylock was funding other AI-related companies.

That company is Tome, which is a presentation generator that pays for OpenAI’s services to run. Hoffman is also listed as one of the founders of Inflection AI, an AI startup working on technology similar to OpenAI.

“By stepping down from the board of directors, I can proactively resolve potential downstream issues for both OpenAI and all of the Greylock portfolio companies I fund,” said Hoffman.

Hoffman’s resignation also underscores the increasing competition among companies that are vying to change their content production using AI, including changing all of their industries using it.

At the same time, Hoffman said he wanted to remain “friends” with OpenAI and work together to improve the quality of human life using technology, including using cross-industry collaboration if necessary.

Via Twitter, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admitted that he was looking forward to collaborating with Hoffman again in the future.

Currently, Hoffman still has a position on the board of directors of Microsoft, which is a major partner and investor in OpenAI.

Apart from Hoffman, there is also Elon Musk who seems willing to develop a technology like ChatGPT. Interestingly, Elon Musk — along with Sam Altman — is the founder of OpenAI.

But then he withdrew from the startup in 2018 due to a conflict of interest. Now, he is said to have approached Igor Babuschkin who is an AI researcher who has just left DeepMind AI, Alphabet’s AI unit.

Musk is reportedly willing to persuade Babuschkin to set up a research lab to develop a ChatGPT competitor.
