Investigation of rigged competitions of Medicine, also investigated teachers of Ancona

The Public Prosecutor of Florence, as part of the investigation into the alleged irregularities in some competitions of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Florence, requested the extent of the interdiction from positions for 8 of the 30 investigated among health managers, universities and teachers investigated. The recipients of the interdiction requests also include the rector of the University, accused of criminal association, corruption and abuse of office, and the general director of the Careggi university hospital. They are also under investigation professors of the Faculty of Medicine of Ancona and Milan, in relation to some competitions held at those universities, whose top management were currently unrelated to the facts. Yesterday the Guardia di Finanza carried out about forty searches in homes and offices, including the Rectorate of Florence.

On the request for precautionary measures, advanced by the deputy prosecutor Luca Tescaroli, the investigating judge of the Court, Angelo Pezzuti, will have to pronounce himself at the end of the interrogations. Under the lens of the investigators of the Guardia di Finanza, several competitions held between 2018 and 2021 ended. According to the indictment, there would have been an organized system to pilot the competitions and the assignment of chairs and positions to the medical faculty. The disputed crimes, for various reasons, are those of criminal association, corruption, abuse of office and undue inducement to give or promise benefits. Among the suspects also the former director of the Aou di Careggi, the general director of the Aou Meyer, who according to the prosecutors would have helped to predetermine the outcome of three insolvency procedures for the appointment of as many associate teachers.
