“We have asked the Economic Inspectorate to investigate and take the necessary measures if violations are found,” the office of Deputy Prime Minister Pierre-Yves Dermagne told RTBF. The Economic Inspectorate will conduct the investigation, in consultation with the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) and the FPS Public Health.
“If it turns out that these illegal practices were indeed carried out by Nestlé, consumers have been deceived and paid for mineral water that was no longer mineral water,” says consumer organization Testaankoop. “You can only call something mineral water if it is pumped up from the source and bottled directly, without subsequent treatment,” water scientist Marjolein Vanoppen (UGent) explained earlier in “The world today”, on Radio 1.
