The plane crash occurred on Friday, August 25, on the eve of the Aviation Day of Ukraine. During the performance of a combat mission, two L-39 aircraft collided in the sky near Zhytomyr. Three Ukrainian pilots were killed.
Investigation launched
The State Bureau of Investigation has already opened a criminal case. Law enforcement officers will check whether the planes were in good condition and whether the rules for preparing for flights were observed. Specialists will diagnose “black boxes”.
Preliminary qualification of the incident – violation of the rules of flights or preparation for them (Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 15 years.

Famous Ukrainian pilot died
As a result of a plane crash in the Zhytomyr region, a well-known fighter pilot in Ukraine died Andrey Pilshchikov with the callsign “Dzhus”. He was a pilot in the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade.
From the beginning of a full-scale war, he defended the skies of Ukraine, in particular, he participated in the defense of the capital and was one of the “Ghosts of Kyiv”.
“Juice” has repeatedly given interviews to Ukrainian and Western media, in which he called for modern fighters to be provided to Ukraine.
“We express our condolences to the families of the victims. This is a painful and irreparable loss for all of us,” the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted.
Recall that we previously reported that the famous Ukrainian fighter Daniil Lyashuk with the call sign “Mujahid” was killed in the battles in the Bakhmut direction.
In early March 2023, Dmitry Kotsyubaylo “Da Vinci” died in a battle near Bakhmut. He is one of the youngest Heroes of Ukraine. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky posthumously awarded the hero with the Combat Merit Cross.
