Introduction of CoronaMelder in Utrecht scheduled for 1 September

UTRECHT Behind the scenes we are working hard on the corona virus app CoronaMelder. This app, which may be introduced nationally as of 1 September, is an additional tool to the RIVM guidelines to prevent a second corona wave. From mid-August, tests will be conducted in practice to see how CoronaMelder works in addition to the regular source and contact research of the GGD. In the second half of August, the House of Representatives will pronounce on CoronaMelder. You decide whether you want to use the app.

The corona virus is still in the Netherlands. Also in Utrecht. That is why it is important to stay alert and to adhere to the basic rules: keep 1.5 meters away, work at home as much as possible, avoid busy places and wash your hands often. Do you have any complaints? Then stay home and get tested. Only if new infections are discovered quickly can we protect each other. CoronaMelder helps with this. Thanks to the app, more people are notified in a short time that they have been around an infected person. This could be someone you know, but also someone you were around in public transport who also had the app on his or her phone. In addition to the regular GGD source and contact survey, CoronaMelder also reaches people who do not know or remember an infected person. Because all these people can be tested earlier, the chance of the virus spreading further is limited.

FIVE DID YOU KNOW ABOUT CORON ALARM The app is still under development. At the end of August, it will be decided whether the app will be released. The use of the app is voluntary. No one should oblige you to use the app. CoronaMelder works with Bluetooth, not with location data (GPS). The app does not know where you are and cannot track you. In the app you do not enter any personal details such as your name or telephone number. CoronaMelder does not report about current infections in the area. That is why it is important to keep a distance of 1.5 meters and wash your hands frequently.

Various tests will take place in the coming period. For example, the app will be tested in practice from 17 August in the GGD regions of Twente and Rotterdam-Rijnmond, one of the largest GGD regions in the Netherlands.
