Trained for six years at the Stade Malherbe Caen, where he played until the reserve team, Mathieu Le Pont then had a rich career. The Hérouville striker, who has played five Regional 2 games this season, went through ASPTT Caen, Ifs, Mérignac, Bourguébus, Fleury-sur-Orne and finally HSC. Powerful and generous, the 30-year-old “never cheats, in life as on the pitch”. He is our quirky interview of the week after being named by his teammate Thomas Couillard.
Football and you…
What is your first football memory?
The Pasteur-Crevecoeur matches two districts of Fleury on a mixed terrain of earth and pebbles. There was always an injured person because this game after school, we must not lose it.
What has been the best moment of your career so far?
The pride in my father’s eyes when I told him that AS Monaco wanted to see me on trial for a whole week.
What is the best game you have played?
I would say Rouen – SM Caen B. Rouen was celebrating its rise to National, the stadium was packed and there was a crazy atmosphere.
Who is the player, as an opponent, who impressed you the most?
Hervé Bazile at the time of Guingamp, it was something on the left side. Impossible to catch up with him.
Is there a player with whom you took the head on the ground?
Yes, very often, I have to have my mind about it. I sometimes lacked that, but I got older, I matured. Now I’m more into calming people down, it’s kind of weird to say for those who really know me.
Who is the best player you have played with?
There are plenty of them but if I had to highlight one of them, it would be Rudy Leprovost. Jo Tendron said he could eliminate four players in a shoebox, I would say in a matchbox.
What’s the best goal you’ve scored?
In Déville-Maromme with Malherbe, returned from 20 meters. My father was jumping everywhere, I remember it like it was yesterday.
The gesture you would like to place in a match?
A small bridge comma followed by a large full bezel strike. But it’s just impossible, my feet can’t do that.
Which pro player do you most resemble in the game?
Everyone calls me Gignac or Darcheville, a bit powerful and I don’t ask myself 40 questions to hit.
And physically ?
So I don’t know why but when I was thinner (it dates back), I was often told Kévin Gameiro.
The celebration you dream of but will never do?
Backflip or slide on the knees but I come out on injury behind, that’s for sure.
In Normandy…
Who is the football bible?
Karl Magnien, a connoisseur of Norman football.
Who is the greatest simulator?
Rudy Hommet at the time of Bourguébus, he got all the penos he wanted.
Who is the strongest ?
Rudy Leprovost and Victor Pomar Forteza.
Who is better for the third half?
Without hesitation, a bottle of gold for Yohann Monteiro the bearded. You invite him to your house, get ready to go around the dial twice.
Who missed their career in another sport?
Sébastien Denis in rugby, all the guys who run into him, they fall.
Among your teammates or your former teammates…
Who has the square footage?
Jeremy Come. In front of goal, it’s a one in five chance. Sorry (laughs).
Who is more technical?
Ferley (Amoetang) this season at Hérouville. Even in training, he does what he wants. You want to sweep it away (laughs).
Who’s the naughtiest?
Yannis Bousquet, I’ve never seen him make an empty trip.
Who is the most stylish?
Sébastien Sirugue without hesitation, on and off the pitch. Appearance is always important, very good player too.
Who absolutely needs to change their haircut?
I don’t know at all, maybe Thomas Couillard. Yes, he tends to lose his hair.
Who’s the funniest?
Still in the third half, I would say cousin Yohan Monteiro.
Thomas Couillard’s question
You who like to travel to clubs, do you think you will last more than two seasons in Hérouville?
This season, I got to know Hérouville and there are really good guys so why not, after that we don’t know what football is made of.
For a next interview
Who do you designate as the next interviewee?
Victor Pomar Forteza (Verson)
A question to ask him?
After having a small injury and the Covid, do you think you can impose yourself in the central hinge with the First of Verson and show us your scoring skills?
