[INTERVIEW] Bobby Lashley, le futur champion WWE?

On the night of Monday through Tuesday, Bobby Lashley will have the chance to become WWE Champion for the first time. But before his match against Miz on Raw, the member of Hurt Business spoke with reporters around the world to discuss this confrontation and his career at the company.

“I trained like never before for this opportunity”

Next Monday on Monday Night Raw, Bobby Lashley will face the Miz for the WWE Championship. An opportunity he has only had three times in 16 years. Needless to say, therefore, that this match is of capital importance for the wrestler. “It’s worth all the gold in the world to me” says Lashley, “the best thing you can do in this industry is win the world championship” he adds. An accomplishment that he does not intend to let slip through his fingers, this one emerging after years of intense work. “When I left WWE, I wanted to earn the respect of the fans by working hard and being respectful,” says Bobby Lashley. A challenge for which he has trained like never before, adding that all the efforts of his career are destined for this precise moment.

But if Bobby Lashley wants to win the WWE Championship, it is mainly for his family. “Everything I do in my career is for my family, for my children”, before adding that his greatest pleasure is seeing his children take pictures with the belts he won. Indeed, in 16 years, Bobby Lashley has won multiple titles such as the United States Championship or the Intercontinental Championship. Always considered as a serious contender for a world championship, the wrestler knew how to “work smarter” to be able to achieve his ends. An intelligence that fans saw during Elimination Chamber 2021. Indeed, Bobby Lashley attacked Drew McIntyre so that the Miz could become the new WWE Champion. The latter had no other choice but to give a championship match to Bobby Lashley as a thank you.

His run at WWE since his return in 2018

After an 11-year absence, Bobby Lashley made his return to WWE in April 2018. A comeback that came “without hesitation” to accomplish what he couldn’t do on his first run. “When I left in 2007, I continued to fight to be legitimate in big games when I came back,” he says. A stint at Strikefroce and Bellator – two MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) companies – which gives him a background as a fighter “necessary against guys like Drew McIntyre” according to him. Bobby Lashley has never stopped wrestling. He who describes wrestling as being an environment with its ups and downs, has always trained relentlessly. “The harder you work, the luckier you become,” says the wrestler.

A perseverance that has motivated him since his comeback. Despite having been part of storylines poorly received by fans, Bobby Lashley does not regret anything. “I don’t regret the storyline with Sami Zayn or the one I had with Lana. I was ready to do the show and pay my debts to the company. ” declares the title contender. Despite everything, his current run at WWE is mainly marked by the formation of Hurt Business. A clan also made up of MVPs, who returned to the company in 2020, as well as Shelton Benjamin and later Cedric Alexander. The idea of forming a clan comes from MVP and Bobby Lashley. “We wanted to create a clan by choosing the most talented wrestlers in the ring but who would also be our friends behind the screen”, specifies Bobby Lashley.

The success of the clan also greatly delights the wrestler. “Wearing all the belts in the ring at the same time is a huge pride” while adding that “the best is yet to come” for Hurt Business. Indeed, for a few weeks, the group was able to be both team champion with Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin while Bobby Lashley was champion of the United States. The latter adds that the idea of becoming a double champion by winning the WWE title and the United States title would be the realization of their efforts. The contender for the title of WWE champion does not finally rule out the arrival of a wrestler in the clan. “If we were to welcome a wrestler into the clan, it would be Naomi. She’s at the top of the list ”.

Finally, Bobby Lashley also touched on a possible confrontation with Brock Lesnar. Indeed, if this match is a dream poster for many fans, Bobby Lashley seems to be focused on something else. “Drew McIntyre beat Brock last year and he beat Goldberg this year. He’s the real man to kill now. ” he declares. He adds by specifying that many wrestlers wish to be the best but that “to be the best, you have to beat the best” as an old man said so well. If Brock Lesnar no longer appears to be a priority for Bobby Lashley, there is no doubt that Drew McIntyre is.

The 43-year-old wrestler is ready and determined for his match on Monday. Bobby Lashley is determined to make his mark at the top of the WWE food chain by winning the company’s most prestigious title. WWE Raw is broadcast Monday to Tuesday night at 2 a.m. French time on the USA Network or Wednesday at 8:50 p.m. on AB1 in French.
