Following in the footsteps of Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney and Rosalía, Interpol reported that it will offer what will be the biggest show in its career, in the Zócalo of Mexico City, a plaza whose capacity they estimate at 280,000 people, which will take place on Saturday, April 20.
The concert is organized by the Secretary of Culture, the band reported in a statement.
“Advertised as a free show, the concert will be an opportunity for Interpol to give back to its long and dedicated base of Mexican fans, who have supported them unconditionally over the years,” said the New York band.
A band formed in New York, Interpol quickly rose to fame with their unique blend of post-punk, shoegaze and dark wave influences. His debut album, Turn on the Bright Lights, became a commercial success and was very well received by critics, establishing the band as a major force in alternative music. Throughout their career, Interpol have released seven studio albums, including The Other Side of Make-Believe in July 2022, selling more than one million albums worldwide.
“Whether it’s headlining Corona Capital Mexico City in 2019 and Corona Capital Guadalajara in 2023 — the country’s two biggest festivals — or the global release of the album Marauder at the Palacio de los Deportes in 2022, the country has always had a special place in the hearts of Interpol. The show will also serve as an opportunity to break down social barriers within the population of Mexico, while giving the country its biggest concert of the year so far,” he explained in the document.
