Mirko Lindner, founder of Pro-Linux, has announced that the popular web portal will be retired at the end of May. “Pro-Linux will (…) clear the active stage at the end of the month,” writes Lindner. From June, the website will only continue to operate in the form of a knowledge archive and any writing actions will no longer be possible.
Since 1999 appear on pro-linux.de (or their predecessor domains) regular news, background articles and short tips about Linux and open source topics. The portal also offers space for event announcements, job offers, discussion forums and more. Overall, Pro Linux has been loud in the past two decades Mirko Lindner’s farewell editorial 1562 articles, 301 short tips and 27690 news published. In the meantime, most of the former goals of the Pro Linux team have been achieved: Linux and open source software have “arrived in the middle of (IT) society”, which is why the underlying concept needs no further explanation. That is why the time is now ripe for the retirement of the portal: “The site is ready. We too. We are also tired.”
In a thoroughly positive summary, Lindner looks back on a wonderful time and priceless memories. He also emphasizes that Pro-Linux has always been a team effort: he thanks companions, supporters and helpers as well as freelance authors. And with the (pro) Linux community: “You were wonderful! (…) It was an honor for us!”.
