Internet disruption at UPC: That’s why customers had no internet last night

UPC customers repeatedly had no internet access last night – now UPC is taking a position

UPC was constantly struggling with Internet interference on Monday evening. The problem existed throughout Switzerland and in parts of Europe. The disruption first occurred at 6 p.m. From that point on, the Internet kept failing for ten to fifteen minutes or was very slow.

Now the cable network operator comments: The reason was a bandwidth disturbance.

«On Monday evening, between 6:00 p.m. and 1:15 a.m., many UPC customers across Switzerland faced a temporary broadband problem, which led to multiple, short connection breaks before connectivity could be restored.

We rolled out a configuration last night to prevent the problem from recurring. Our teams now carry out final checks and analyzes to validate the current solution.

Sporadic UPC customers may experience some minor disruption as a result of this problem, but we are working to resolve it as soon as possible.

We understand that such service interruptions are frustrating and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. »

UPC customers who still have connection problems are recommended by the cable network operator to restart the modem.

All services in which data are transmitted were affected. So internet, video-on-demand and replay TV.

The problem affected the whole of Switzerland and parts of Europe, as media spokeswoman Stephanie Niggli said on Monday evening. For example, the sister companies UPC Poland or Virgin Media in England reported a malfunction. There were also problems in Germany at the same time.

Unitymedia, like UPC, was a subsidiary of Liberty Global until 2019. Now Unitymedia belongs to Vodafone.

On Monday evening, over 9000 reports were received on the “allestault.ch” website. Many users also reported problems on Twitter.

On allestault.ch, there was a flattening of the fault reports before the curve repeatedly showed high levels of fault reports.
