Internet and Telephone Outage in Morey-Saint-Denis: Impact on Tourism and Local Businesses

For more than two weeks now, residents of Morey-Saint-Denis (Côte-d’Or) have had no access to the internet or the telephone. In question: a telephone cable which was degraded on July 27, 2023. The situation is particularly restrictive for the tourist sector during this summer period, reports France 3 Cote-d’Or.

However, this is not the first time that residents have been confronted with such inconvenience. In the past, the same cable has already been damaged after the installation was torn out. In total, three network cuts have been recorded since the beginning of the year.

Operator intervention

Consequence: several merchants cannot answer calls from their customers. “In season, customers call once, twice. If they don’t have an answer, they call someone else,” lamented the manager of a local equestrian center. Technical problems confirmed by one of his customers present on site: “to book, it’s true that when we called, we often got an answering machine”. The boss of the establishment would thus miss half of his calls. Like him, the manager of nearby guest rooms explained that he had not received any phone calls for three weeks.

The breakdown also has an impact on the comfort of customers since they can no longer pay by credit card. In the equestrian center, the payment terminal stopped working. “The first distributor is six kilometers away. It’s not professional, because people are there to relax,” lamented the operator. The latter contacted the operator who told him that an intervention was scheduled for Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
