International meeting demands that Crimea be returned to Ukraine

The more than 40 representatives, including ten heads of government, agreed to work for a peaceful end to the Russian occupation of the Crimean peninsula.

However, the resolution, which was adopted seven years after Russia invaded and occupied Crimea and a pro-Russian uprising broke out in eastern Ukraine, appears to have little chance of changing Russia’s stance on the issue.

The summit was held after Ukraine complained about the lack of support from Western allies, including the fact that they are not invited to join NATO, that they are not allowed to buy weapons, and that a gas pipeline is being built directly from Russia to Germany outside Ukraine.
