Esslingen – Alphorns would most likely look for in significantly higher regions. But this characteristic wind instrument is also very popular in Esslingen. Around 20 active wind players got together years ago for the “Esslingen Alphorns” to indulge their shared passion. The Live Music Association, whose chairman Eckhart Fischer himself is an enthusiastic alphorn player, would like to further inspire the passion for the alphorn and announced an international composition competition for alphorn and other instruments or singing at the beginning of the year. After the deadline for submissions at the end of April, one thing is certain: the experiment was a success. 63 composers took part with their works; the entries came from Germany, France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland.
The best from Esslingen.
