Internal justice closes the Infantino case

The internal justice of FIFA has decided to “close the case” against Gianni Infantino who remains subject to criminal proceedings in Switzerland.

Infantino is the subject of a criminal investigation into an alleged secret meeting with Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber. Both deny wrongdoing. Fifa said documents shared by Swiss courts have been reviewed.

“No aspect of the conduct analyzed constitutes a violation. Certain aspects do not even fall under the provisions of the code of ethics of Fifa, nor do they justify the adoption of any kind of measure, including that of a provisional suspension ”, said FIFA.

In this sense, the president of the investigative chamber of the Ethics Commission, the Colombian Maria Claudia Rojas, decided to “Close the case”.

Infantino had previously defended himself by claiming that any meeting was not “By no means secret and certainly not illegal”.

However, Switzerland admitted that the criminal investigation had already “Caused considerable damage to Fifa as an organization and to myself as president”.

Infantino said the meetings with Lauber were broadly aimed at discussing the fact that the attorney general’s office was investigating a series of criminal allegations in which Fifa was an aggrieved party.
