Intergovernmental cooperation between Latvia and Russia in several areas has been suspended

As explained by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOF), according to modern international law, any country has the right to take measures against a country that violates its obligations to the international community as a whole, in order to ensure the prevention of the violation and reparations in the interests of the victimized country.

Thus, the international community, including Latvia, has the obligation to cooperate, as well as the right to take countermeasures, in order to motivate Russia to stop the violations of international law and fully compensate for the violations already committed.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will submit a notice to the Russian side on the suspension of the agreement.
