Interactive theater with a Murder and Mystery flavor

An online play where spectators participate in solving the enigma while being entertained by the actors, this is the new and unusual formula proposed by the company By episode. The room Scalpel relies on an interactive staging punctuated by already recorded capsules, where the public becomes a jury and where the actors improvise brilliantly.

From the start of the virtual evening, spectators are greeted live by investigator Yvon Beauregard. He seeks to find out who killed the criminal lawyer Francoeur, who had just undergone heart surgery. The public will become the jury of a popular trial and will therefore have to find the culprit. Without knowing the exact cause of his death, we know that the operation was not the cause and that it went well. The investigator acts as a host or master of ceremonies, addressing both the public and the actors targeted as the suspects given their presence in the hospital at the fateful moment and the weakness of their alibi. Everyone could have an interest in having murdered the lawyer …

Quickly, the suspects come to us live. Then, video capsules [préenregistrées au Domaine Maizerets, transformé pour l’occasion en hôpital] retracing the day of the crime from the point of view of each character are shown. Then, a first period of questions from the public is addressed to the suspects. This can be done by chat or by audio (there is no possibility that the spectators can be seen, the camera function is disabled for them). There are then other pre-recorded capsules and other possibilities to question the actors.

The magic of the theater

Yvon Beauregard [alias Denis Marchand] is a wonderful accompanist throughout the evening. His playing is believable, he improvises wonderfully and entertains in the best possible way. The suspects are also excellent. All of them seem to have something to hide, but also to have a motive and never leave their character.

The room Scalpel is like a live Clue game, with added theatrical entertainment, which allows the audience to be sometimes passive, sometimes active. It will also be necessary that this one determines who is guilty… Do not worry, because this person will be revealed by the production at the end. The People’s Court made up of members of the public had indeed found the culprit!

The evening is great entertainment of a new kind. Personally, I loved this show which fits perfectly into the present Covidian.
