Interactive Art and Technology Merge in the New Geely Atlas Crossover: A Review

Recently, more and more museums have appeared in which real exhibits are replaced with interactive ones. Instead of seeing actual art objects, you are offered to admire their images on large displays, sometimes in 3D projections. Something similar awaits you in the new Geely Atlas crossover, which with the change of generations has turned into a work of modern art and costs 3.2-3.5 million rubles. Outside there are LED compositions, inside there are displays with bright pictures. However, there are new items in the “physical exhibits” section, namely in technology. And I was able to test this entire “exposure” in 20-degree frosts.

Not five meters from the car, I see how the new Atlas, recognizing the transponder key in my pocket, lights up its spectacular illumination. Even through the thick layer of frost that covered the car during two days of parking in 20-degree frost, the narrow (only 15 mm in height) LED headlight lenses brightly illuminate the space in front of the car. I’ll say right away that they work excellently on a dark road.

LED headlights are a narrow strip consisting of five lenses: the three central ones are responsible for low beam, and two more on the sides are high beam with automatic switching mode

But here’s the thing: Atlas won’t let me inside: I pull the driver’s door handle, but the keyless entry doesn’t work. Once again – the same result. You have to take the key out of your pocket and press the button. Alas, on all days of the test, the sensors located on both front doors unlocked every other time, regardless of the temperature. But the car closed reliably – with a light touch to the sensor, even with a glove.

Handle for a natural grip – with contactless unlocking sensors. Under the rear support there is an “emergency” keyhole

But if the central display does not start in such frost, then I have to sit on a cold “chair” and hold on to the frozen steering wheel. The only button on the center console is the hazard warning light, and all other equipment, including dual-zone climate control and a full range of warm options, is activated through the menu of the large 13.2-inch diagonal vertical display. Fortunately, the engine started with a half turn, and literally a couple of seconds later, after the light show (where would we be without this), images appeared both on the instrument cluster and on the central screen. A couple of clicks – and I’m in the heating menu: I turn on the steering wheel and driver’s seat, and on the next layout – heated rear and windshield windows (over the entire area). It’s good that even in such frost the display responds very quickly to touches (you can also use gloves) and opens pages as quickly as on a warmed-up machine.
