LIVERPOOL – Inter Milan eliminated from Champions League 2021-2022. Inter Milan coach, Simone Inzaghi, was also in the spotlight for not playing his star player, Edin Dzeko, against Liverpool in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 2021-2022.
Playing at Anfield, Wednesday (9/3/2022) early morning WIB, Inter Milan failed to qualify for the 2021-2022 Champions League quarter-finals. The Nerazzurri-Inter Milan’s nickname- actually managed to win at Anfield with a score of 1-0.
However, the victory was not enough to bring Inter Milan through to the quarterfinals. The reason, they lost on aggregate goals to Liverpool by 1-2.
Liverpool’s two-goal capital in the first leg made Mohamed Salah et al confident. However, both teams played tight from the start of the match.

The buying and selling of attacks continued, but in the end it was Inter Milan who managed to strike the ball into the opponent’s goal. It was Lautaro Martinez (61′) who managed to score the only goal of the match.
Unfortunately, two minutes after the goal, the Nerazzurri were disastrous after Alexis Sanchez was sent off by the referee for violating Fabinho and getting a second yellow card. Of course, this made the Reds-Liverpool’s nickname- again dominant in the final third of the match.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan, who tried to equalize on aggregate, could not score an additional goal. Inzaghi, who is famous for changing players when he gets a yellow card, also explained why he didn’t attract Sanchez. The Italian coach has no regrets about his decision.
“Absolutely not (sorry), because at that moment I needed Sanchez on the pitch and would not change him on a night like this,” said Inzaghi, quoted by Football Italia, Wednesday (9/3/2022).
