Inter Miami suffered a 0-1 defeat to FC Cincinnati in the United States League (MLS) at the DRV PNK Stadium, Miami, Sunday (8/10) morning WIB, even though they were strengthened again Lionel Messi.

Inter Miami failed to win, including suffering two defeats, in the last four matches in all competitions when Messi was absent due to injury.

Messi is now back against FC Cincinnati. It is hoped that La Pulga’s presence will return Inter Miami to winning ways in order to enter the MLS playoffs.

Inter Miami coach Tata Martino introduced Messi in the 55th minute to replace Tomas Aviles. The player from Argentina immediately received the captain’s armband from Sergio Busquets.

Unfortunately Messi’s presence did not help Inter Miami achieve victory. Inter Miami actually lost 0-1 to FC Cincinnati. FC Cincinnati’s winning goal was scored by Alvaro Barreal in the 78th minute.

The goal started from a mistake by Sergio Buquets who lost the ball in the final third of Inter Miami’s defense. Barreal then took advantage of a rebound that goalkeeper Drake Callender failed to anticipate perfectly.

Messi worked hard to score the equalizer. However, in the 86th minute, Messi’s first shot in this match went sideways to the left of FC Cincinnati’s goal.

Messi’s last chance was obtained during injury time in the second half with a free kick that was still narrowly over the crossbar. The final score of 1-0 for FC Cincinnati lasted until the match was over.

This defeat means that Inter Miami will certainly fail to qualify for the MLS playoffs this season.
