Intel Raptor Lake launches October 17th

Intel Raptor Lake is approaching and after a presentation on September 28th, new rumors suggest that Intel is aiming for a consumer launch on October 17th.

Intel’s next big CPU launch is expected to bring big gains in performance. Earlier this week we saw reports of huge profits in multi-threaded performance for the upcoming 13600K processor, which should be able to deliver performance approaching 12900K. The simple explanation is that Intel squeezes processor cores into its new circuits. At least now we get new information about when it is time for the circuits to see the light of day. It is noted leaker Enthusiast Citizen who claims, without further proof, that the circuits will reach consumers on October 17th. The launch will take place after the circuits are introduced at the Intel Innovation event, which will take place on September 27 and 28.

An October 17th launch could be a good time for Christmas shopping, but there is a risk that it will be a launch that ends up a full month after AMD, which appears to be aiming to get its Ryzen 7000 chips to consumers in mid-September.

Z790 in October, H770 and B760 coming later

Along with new S-class processors, Intel will start with a launch of Z790 motherboards. They should include a better VRM than before, for better overclocking, and should have built-in support for DDR5-5600. Incidentally, the control circuits will continue to take most of the weight when it comes to PCIe lanes, as the processors, among other things, do not come with built-in support for PCIe 5 for m2 SSDs.

For a wider audience, the H770 and B760 are expected to be presented as more affordable alternatives early next year. However, not all consumers will need to get a new motherboard as all indications are that the new CPUs will be compatible with Alder Lake motherboards. After Raptor Lake, however, Intel is expected to continue its tradition of short-lived sockets and completely change the connection for the future Meteor Lake processors that will debut in 2023.
