The amendment should allow parents to allow their children to be in crèches under the age of three, specifically until August following their third birthday. “At the moment, we want to set up affordable care for young children. We want pre-school care to be of good quality, ”said Maláčová when she came to the government.

The Czechia is one of the countries in the European Union with the lowest availability of care for young children. Missing places in kindergartens were to be provided by children’s groups. These are paid mainly from EU money. However, their drawing will end in the middle of 2022.

“Children’s groups that now exist, but we will let them run out by 2024. We do not want to liquidate them, we give them time to adapt to the new conditions,” the minister added.

The rules for crèches would be stricter than for children’s groups. Newly, they would have to have a dressing room, separate sleeping areas, a laundry room and other essentials.

According to the head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the law could be valid from 1 July next year.

The amendment will now travel to the Chamber of Deputies. If deputies support it, it must be assessed by the Senate and signed by the president.
