On Wednesday morning, the British newspaper Financial Times reported that Jahm Najafi wanted to buy Tottenham for $3.75 billion. The Iranian-American billionaire, who is the CEO of MSP Sports Capital, is working with a consortium of investors to structure the proposal. He is reportedly to make a formal offer to buy the club in the next few weeks. The billionaire’s offer will be structured in such a way that 70 percent of the price will be covered by MSP and partners. The remaining 30 percent will be sponsors from the Middle East.

Najafi is another billionaire looking to take over a Premier League club. Not so long ago, a consortium led by American financier Todd Boehly bought Chelsea for £2.5 billion. Another group of investors, led by Bill Foley, decided to put up £120m for Bournemouth. The Daily Mail recently reported that Elon Musk had made a £4.5 billion bid for Manchester United.

Najafi was a minority shareholder of the NBA Phoenix Suns until recently, but acquired the team in December for $4 billion. He also has shares in the McLaren F1 team. In 2021, his wealth was estimated at £2.9 billion (about $3.5 billion).

Tottenham are currently fifth in the Premier League table with 39 points. The leader remains Arsenal (51 points), ahead of second place Manchester City (48 points) and third place Manchester United (46 points). The next match of Antonio Conte’s players will be played on Sunday, February 19, when they face West Ham.
