Inmates in Atambua Prison Undergo HIV Screening

Examination as an effort to improve the health of inmates.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG — Dozens of inmates at the Class IIB Atambua Correctional Institution underwent an HIV examination and received health education from medical personnel from the Belu District Health Office and the South Atambua Health Center. The head of the Atambua Class IIB Penitentiary, Edwar Hadi, said the effort was made to improve inmates’ health penitentiary (WBP).

“We continue to ensure the optimization of health services in the Covid-19 pandemic situation and concerns about a decrease in body resistance have an impact on the health of the inmates,” he said in Kupang, Sunday (29/5/2022).

He added that these activities are carried out every month, referring to Law Number 12 of 1995 concerning Corrections Article 14 paragraph 1 which states the rights of prisoners. These include the right to treatment, health services, and proper food.

Edwar added that the health conditions of the residents of Atambua Prison are currently being hit by the flu and cough viruses, so a visit by health experts from the Belu district health office and the South Atambua Health Center was held in the Atambua prison hall. The implementation of the activity was directly accompanied by the Atambua prison doctor, Ester and the prison health data processor, Yacoba Lobang.

The health check starts with measuring weight, blood pressure, pulse, and others. Furthermore, in accordance with the medical analogy, giving prescriptions to inmates who experience health problems in accordance with the SOP for health services for inmates in prisons.
