Infinix Zero Ultra Review: Strengths, Weaknesses, and Comparison with Competitors

Elegance, large display, powerful processor and breathtaking charging. These are the strengths of the Infinix Zero Ultra, which is trying to pave the way for a lesser-known manufacturer here. On top, it offers a 200-megapixel main camera, 5G and NFC support. The question remains whether there is a hitch or a childhood illness in the equipment.

The Infinix brand is relatively new on our market, but it is not a newcomer to the world. Its origins date back to 2013, when it was founded in Hong Kong. Currently, it is even among the world’s largest manufacturers and it can be assumed that we will hear about it regularly. The Zero Ultra model also appeared in the offer, which tries not only to play on the design line, but also very good equipment with an emphasis on impressive numbers.

Package contents: case fits

The sales box is described with almost all the equipment that the phone has. The manufacturer therefore leaves nothing to chance. In the sales package itself, in addition to the phone, there is also a USB cable, charger terminal and also a protective silicone case. A reduction from USB-C to 3.5mm jack is thrown on top.

Construction: slim and elegant

In terms of appearance, the phone looks really good, the manufacturer paid attention to every detail. For example, the back looks snow-white, but at a certain angle, a pleasant and original pattern emerges. In addition, this perfectly masks any fingerprints, so the phone almost always looks good.

The front and back sides are rounded and tapered, which makes the phone slim and very comfortable to hold in the hand. Infinix’s ergonomics were top notch. There is no unwanted sliding of the device in the hand, and although the Zero Ultra is rather a taller mobile, the buttons on the right side are not so high that the thumb of the right hand cannot easily reach them.

The processing is exemplary, it seems solid. After all, there is nothing to be surprised about, the front and back are glass, the frame is metal. Perfection lacks some degree of coverage, which makes the phone not resistant to dust or water, which is a shame, of course.

We liked it

  • elegant appearance
  • fits well in the hand

We didn’t like it

  • lacks increased resistance

Display: almost ideal

Infinix left nothing to chance and deployed a large AMOLED panel, the 6.8″ diagonal is very decent. Fortunately, it also reached Full HD+ resolution. There is also a high 120Hz refresh rate. We are satisfied with the brightness, which reaches up to 900 nits, the readability is so great even outdoors. We would also like to praise Always-On, however, it is under-tightened and is not really there. The display only partially lights up when you pick up the mobile phone or tap on the display. Otherwise, it goes out completely in a few seconds. Gorilla Glass takes care of protecting the display itself 3. The fingerprint reader is integrated into the display, it is an optical type, but its functionality is fickle. It often happened that it responded, but did not recognize the finger.

We didn’t like it

  • the classic Always-On is missing

Sound: bland stereo

There are speakers on the bottom edge and further above the display, so as a result they play in stereo. However, the quality is average at best, the volume is sufficient. For listening to music, it will be better to choose headphones, but wireless ones, because the 3.5mm jack is missing.

Hardware performance: pleasing and challenging

The performance is taken care of by the Dimensity 920 processor together with 8GB of RAM. Together, it is a powerful duo that will allow you to play almost all games with ease. The internal memory can hold 256 GB or 231 GB after the first power on. It must be enough for you, because the phone’s memory card slot is missing.

Battery life: in the main role of charging

The battery has a rather slightly weaker capacity of 4,500 mAh, but the endurance will easily last more than one day, it is ideal to charge it every night. Although, it’s actually enough in the morning before you drink your coffee. The Zero Ultra model supports 180W wired charging and you can find the necessary adapter in the package. The phone charges to 50% in about 3.5 minutes, a full charge takes 12 minutes. Very impressive, right? It is so true that whenever you remember, just a few minutes on the charger and you have enough energy for the rest of the day. However, it has not yet reached the necessary coil for wireless charging.

We didn’t like it

  • wireless charging is missing

Connectivity: supports two SIM cards

In terms of connectivity, the phone is equipped with 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth and NFC for contactless payments. USB-C is a matter of course. A-GPS, which is supplemented by the Russian GLONASS system, deserves great praise. It always found its position very quickly and did not show large deviations. It is supported to work with two nanoSIMs, which do not share their space in any way, as the phone does not support memory cards.

Camera: they are not perfect

The Zero Ultra model has a square module on the back, in which there are three sensors. The main camera has a high resolution of 200 megapixels, even with optical image stabilization. The resulting images don’t look bad at all. The mobile strives for color fidelity and the sharpness is uniform over the entire surface of the image. The images also look decent in poor light conditions, so the phone will definitely not put you to shame.

The secondary sensor is not to be thrown away, it has 13 megapixels, is ultra-wide-angle and even has automatic focus. The images look very good, especially in good light, without noticeable noise. The list of cameras ends with a 2-megapixel portrait lens.

Sample photos

Video recording is possible in maximum 4K resolution with 30 frames per second. The resulting videos are rather average in quality, slightly shaky and the sharpness is also weaker.

Those interested in high-quality selfies will certainly use the 32-megapixel front camera in the display opening. It takes quality pictures, especially they are sharp and true to color.

We didn’t like it

  • telephoto lens is missing
  • weaker video recording

Software: the translation…

The phone runs Android 13, which was upgraded from Android 12, which is at least a small plus. However, whether the support will continue is somewhat in the stars. Above the environment there is also a superstructure from the manufacturer, which is somewhat unnecessary here. Rather, the producer should focus on a better localization into Czech, because sometimes you come across difficult translations or missing translations. This is, for example, a situation where the phone undergoes an update. A window will pop up that is half in Czech and half in English. Let’s add that at least the optimization is exemplary and the phone works briskly.

We liked it

  • good environment optimization

Evaluation

The Zero Ultra phone does Infinix a great service. 180W charging will simply impress and feel it even for an ordinary user who can charge his mobile phone in a few minutes. The equipment will also please you with a high-quality main camera and large storage. The plus is definitely the excellent appearance of the entire phone. However, the phone also has quite a few shortcomings. It lacks at least basic increased resistance or a telephoto lens for lossless zooming in on the scene, and the environment with imperfect translation does not look very good. Needless to say, in the mid-range, the competition is always strong and can sink Infinix.

Competition

For example, the Motorola Edge 40 is offered with a similarly stylish appearance and a curved display that boasts an even higher refresh rate. It doesn’t have that fast charging, but wireless charging support makes up for it. Needless to say, Motorola’s environment is also more refined

The Poco X6 Pro is also in the game, which again has a better display, higher durability and a more powerful processor. But again, it charges with a slightly weaker performance.
