infectologist predicts that normality will arrive until the end of 2021

Johns Hopkins University infectologist William Checkley estimated that COVID-19 will be overcome until the end of 2021.

“It is already more or less clear that COVID-19 is here to stay for a while and be an endemic problem similar to what we see with influenza,” he said in an interview for CNN.

“The point is that there are going to be variants and we already see this in influenza, we have to make changes to the vaccine every year to be able to adapt to the genetic differences of the virus. It is very possible that we will have to do the same with COVID-19” , he detailed.

He added that the period to defeat the virus depends on the advance of vaccination in many countries.

“Everything has depended on the negotiations that governments have had with companies to support the development of vaccines, all of this will influence where the vaccines arrive first,” he explained

“As more vaccines become available, this facilitates distribution and logistics, especially vaccines that can be adapted to standard vaccination cold chains because that will greatly help distribution,” added the specialist.

He added that because of this, the mask must continue to be used, keep a healthy distance and have exhaustive hygiene.
