Infected Portuguese transferred to referral hospital in Japan – O Jornal Económico

The director-general of Health confirmed today that the Portuguese infected with coronavirus on board a cruise ship docked in the Japanese port of Yokohama will be sent the next morning to a local referral hospital.

In a press conference this afternoon in Lisbon, Graça Freitas said that Adriano Maranhão, who was quarantined in his cabin, will be sent to a referral hospital, which should take place the next morning (Lisbon time).

This information, said Graça Freitas, was transmitted to the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE), which has representatives to monitor the situation on the spot.

The director-general of Health explained that the symptoms of the crew member of the cruise ship Diamond Princess indicate that the situation “is not serious” and expressed her “empathy and sympathy” with the family of the Portuguese worker, whose wife has expressed, in statements to the media, complaints of failure to monitor the husband’s situation.

Graça Freitas said that initially there were suspicions of infection among eight Portuguese who were on the ship – three passengers and five crew.

The passengers did not report the disease and, of the crew, four had negative results.

As for Adriano Maranhão, plumber at Diamond Princess, he initially had no symptoms, but the test turned out to be positive.
