infected in India where he had gone with his wife to adopt his daughter

Three and a half months attached to oxygen, with ongoing complications in the lungs and heart; then, in early August, a septic shock and entry into dialysis due to a malfunction of a kidney. There antibiotic therapy seemed to have opened one chink, but in the last few days the picture suddenly took off aggravated until death.

Together with his wife Simonetta Filippini, also a 45-year-old countryman, Galli had left for India in mid-April. They had to go to take Mariam, the two-year-old girl for whom they had completed the procedures of international adoption. When boarding for the return flight, however, Simonetta had turned out positive to the coronavirus. So it was brought in hospital and then in a Covid hotel, in the midst of the health emergency that hit the subcontinent in those days: “I was in a room of two meters by two meters with seven people and some died in front of my eyes,” he said. The case had been raised by La Nazione and Galli had asked for the help of the embassy and the government to leave the country.

The situation was unlocked on 7 May thanks to a special flight, costing 130 thousand euros, made available by the airline Volitalia and paid for in large part by a fundraiser to which friends, relatives and benefactors contributed. Back in Italy, Galli and the child also tested positive, and all three had been hospitalized in Careggi. But while his wife and daughter recovered in a short time, an ordeal that lasted until his death began for the husband.
