VIVA – The Indonesian national team has qualified for the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup with the best third place status. The Garuda squad’s qualification cannot be separated from the 1-1 draw between Kyrgyzstan and Oman at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Thursday 25 January 2024.
Indonesia is in third place in Group D after collecting three points from three matches. Indonesia closed the group phase matches with one win and two defeats. Shin Tae-yong’s troops lost 1-3 to Iraq, won 1-0 over Vietnam and lost 3-1 to Japan.
Indonesia’s success in qualifying was greeted by cheers of joy. The players share their activities watching together the match between Kiirgistan and Oman.
One of them is a naturalized player, Shayne Pattynama. He welcomed the success of the Indonesian National Team in making history at the most prestigious event on the Yellow Continent.
Even though on Indonesia’s journey to the last 16, he was never played at all by the Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong.
On his personal social media, Shayne also uploads photos with the team, coaches, managers and officials. He is excited to continue Indonesia’s history in the Asian Cup. “We qualified for the round of 16. Let’s continue writing history,” wrote Shayne.
Shayne is one of the players who is eagerly awaited by Indonesian football fans. The reason is, this 26 year old player has experience playing at European level.
However, Shin Tae-yong had other considerations for Shayne. So far he has not had any playing minutes in the Asian Cup, along with players like Ramadhan Sananta and Dendy Sulistyawan.
