Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto Receives Special TNI General Rank

Indonesian Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto will receive the special rank of TNI General (HOR) today. Prabowo will receive the honor of being promoted to 4-star TNI general at the TNI Leadership Meeting at TNI Headquarters.

This was revealed by the spokesperson for Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, in his video statement, Tuesday (27/2/2024). Dahnil emphasized that the award of the 4-star honorary general was also in accordance with Law Number 20 of 2009.

“That’s right, tomorrow (ed: today) Pak Prabowo will be present at the TNI Meeting and plans to receive a Presidential Decree from the President regarding a mark of honor in the form of a special promotion to TNI General. This is in accordance with Law Number 20 of 2009 concerning Titles , marks of service and marks of honor,” said Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak.

Dahnil said a number of military figures had received similar honors.

“General SBY, Pak Luhut, Pak Hendropriyono and several other figures have received the same thing,” said Dahnil.

Dahnil then detailed the reasons for giving this honorary mark to Prabowo. Dahnil said Prabowo’s dedication and contribution was recognized in the military world.

Dahnil said that the honor Prabowo would receive was a proposal from TNI Headquarters to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Prabowo is scheduled to receive the honorary mark at the TNI Rapim at TNI Headquarters today.

“The granting of full generalship to Pak Prabowo is based on Pak Prabowo’s dedication and contribution to the military and defense world,” said Dahnil.

“Therefore, it was decided that Pak Prabowo would be proposed by TNI Headquarters to the President to be given full generalship and God willing, tomorrow Pak Prabowo will receive the honorary mark of this special promotion at TNI Headquarters,” he added.

Dahnil emphasized that the award of the 4-star honorary general was also in accordance with Law Number 20 of 2009.

“This is in accordance with Law Number 20 of 2009 concerning Titles, Service Certificates and Honors,” said Dahnil.

Jokowi will attend

TNI-Polri will hold a leadership meeting (rapim) today. President Jokowi is scheduled to attend this activity.

“Mr President has come,” said Minister of State Secretary Pratikno at the Presidential Palace complex, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (27/2).

However, Pratikno did not clearly answer the question of whether Jokowi would directly hand over the promotion that Prabowo Subianto would receive. Pratikno only explained that Jokowi would deliver a speech at the TNI-Polri meeting.
