EmitenNews.com – Indonesia is ready to face the potential for the next pandemic, after Covid-19, due to the attack of Disease Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin expressed Indonesia’s readiness for Disease X to become the next pandemic.

Even so, on the sidelines of the 2024 National Nutrition Day commemoration, in Central Jakarta, Sunday (28/1/2023), Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin asked the public not to worry too much about this possibility. The former Deputy Minister of BUMN revealed that his party had also built a new surveillance network. With this step, various disease risks will be handled more quickly.

“Since the G20, Indonesia has built a new surveillance network. Now with grants from the world bank, we are building public health laboratories starting from the sub-district level, health centers, city districts, and should be able to reach the provinces,” said Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin .

In this way, according to Minister Budi, Indonesia should be better prepared to face Disease X as advised by WHO.

Existing information states that Disease Disease X is actually not a new term and has been on the WHO priority disease list since 2018.

Meanwhile, Epidemiologist Dicky Budiman said that Indonesia is a country that is prone to potentially contributing to disease X. The dense population in our country and the high frequency of travel are the most potential causes.

“This very high frequency of travel can facilitate the spread of infectious diseases. The high intensity of this population in some areas could have the potential for disease transmission or ease, such as in big cities, especially in densely populated areas and high interaction,” said Dicky Budiman.

Dicky Budiman also highlighted the outermost, remote and limited areas (3T) which still lack access to health. This condition could hamper detection and response when new pathogens appear.

Apart from that, Dicky Budiman also asked the public to be careful about contact with wild and domestic animals. According to him, there is a greater risk of increasing pathogens changing species.
