Indonesia cancels April submarine rescue mission

He added that “critical materials from the submarine” had already been withdrawn within a month, but the decision to end the operation meant that the sailors had no chance of rebuilding the ship.

The official reason for the tragedy has not yet been presented.

“We express our deepest gratitude to the boats that tried to lift the submarines from the bottom,” said Gung Pita Alit Jaya, Commander of the Marine Security Forces of the Indonesian Second Fleet.

According to him, the team managed to make 20 dives to the submarine and raise parts of the sunken submarine to the surface, as well as take photographs and videos.

Recall the military submarine KRI Nanggala 402 stopped communicating April 21 during a training exercise near Bali. On April 25, it was announced that submarine wreckage found at a depth of 839 meters. The crew members were pronounced dead.
