At last month’s Microsoft Xbox Developer Direct event, where the game was announced for Xbox and PC only, a source said that Bethesda was also considering bringing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to PS5, The Verge reported Monday.
Although Bethesda will launch the Indiana Jones game first as an Xbox console exclusive, it will currently have a fairly short period of exclusivity.
An Indiana Jones release for PS5 is being considered for several months after that, with Bethesda tentatively targeting a December 2024 launch for the Xbox and PC versions.
The exact timing and platform availability for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle may change, especially since Microsoft’s new multi-platform approach to Xbox games has not yet been finalized. Microsoft has been evaluating bringing certain Xbox exclusive games to PS5 and Nintendo Switch in recent months.
Last year, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was originally planned for multiple consoles. Pete Hines, Bethesda’s former Head of Global Publishing, testified that Disney had contracts for several consoles and that the deal was changed to exclusive to Xbox consoles after Microsoft acquired Bethesda.
The launch of Indiana Jones on PS5 will certainly come as a surprise, but it’s rumored that there is still heated debate within Microsoft over which Xbox games will be brought to the rival console. Now it looks like Microsoft has decided on some of the Xbox titles that will make their way to the PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
