Chennai: A brilliant win over England has boosted India’s chances of reaching the final of the World Test Championship. The 317-run victory over England in the second Test lifted India to second place in the Test rankings.
India, who suffered a shock 227-run defeat in the first Test, have made an impressive comeback in the second Test. With the defeat in the first Test, India fell to fourth position. Australia lost to India, just behind New Zealand in the final. England overtook India to move up to third place. But England fell to fourth place after losing by a large score in the second Test. India overtook Australia to finish second.
Points from one year’s Test matches are used to advance to the finals, which determine the Test champions. The Kiwis have 70 points from five series and India 69.70. Australia has 69.20 points and England 67 points.
India are level at 1-1 in the four-Test series. In the remaining two matches, India will play New Zealand 3-1, two wins 3-1 and a draw 2-1. The final of the Test Championship will be played from June 18-22. The final is at Lord’s in England.
