India bans 118 China-related apps, including games – news

An emerging market for video games, India and its government have just banned hundreds of applications linked to Chinese groups and companies.

Most of these applications are the owned by Netease and Tencent, which, as you know, distributes and publishes many video games in Asia. Among the games now banned in the territory of the Indian Union, we find Arena of Valor, an ultra-popular moba in this part of the world, but also PUBG or MARVEL Super War. According to the note presented by the government, blocked applications would be prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, to the defense of India, to state security and to public order. More concretely, the authorities fear that these applications will steal user data in order to transmit them outside the country:

(We suspect these apps of) stealing and surreptitiously transmitting user data in an unauthorized manner to servers outside of India. The compilation of this data, its extraction and profiling by elements hostile to the national security and defense of India, which ultimately infringe on India’s sovereignty and integrity, is a topic of concern. very deep and immediate concern that requires urgent action. This decision will safeguard the interests of millions of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a focused decision aimed at ensuring the safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.

If the console market still has not succeeded in developing in India, this is not the case with the mobile market and the PC, with a large number of cybercafés in urban centers. However, it is difficult to estimate the shortfall of Tencent from Netease in this territory. For the curious, you can find the entire press release as well as the list of prohibited applications on the official website of the Indian government.
