When the quarter-finals of the most prestigious European cup series were drawn, not many people bet that this pairing could meet in the top four. The Bavarians, who have often shown poor form this season, got Arsenal, while fate pushed defending champion Manchester City into the path of the BEK/BL record champion. Since then, these two teams have been fighting for the title in the English top flight (Premier League), which clearly shows what kind of playing power they represent.
However, in the case of the Londoners, the lack of routine in the BL stood out, the Munichers won 1-0 at home after the draw away from home, thus advancing in the series. Real’s chances of progressing were greatly reduced against City after the match in Madrid, and in Manchester they defended heroically to reach the 11th round, which they won, thus fighting back for last year’s devastating 4-0 defeat to Pep Guardiola’s team.
Thomas Tuchel’s team mentally gave up on the gold medal in the Bundesliga weeks ago, everyone knew that it was only a matter of time before Bayer Leverkusen, who are running an incredible season, will mathematically secure their first place in the league.
On the other hand, after the return match against City, Real also mobilized great forces against Barcelona to take a step closer to the title in La Liga. After the victory, Carlo Ancelotti (who reached the semi-finals of the BL for the tenth time as a coach) could afford to send the quasi “B” team against Real Sociedad, which was able to win despite suffering.
The teams were greeted by a fantastic atmosphere at the Allianz Arena, the atmosphere boosted the home team, who had a great start: after just 40 seconds, Harry Kane sent Leroy Sane into a tizzy, and Andrij Lunyin brilliantly saved his shot from close range.
In the first ten minutes, the guests were very much stuck in front of their own goal, Kane threatened twice, once he shot on goal from the half-court, and in the seventh minute, Sané was again in a position, but he did not hit the goal.

After the first quarter of an hour, Real got a breather, Ancelotti’s team tried to appreciate the ball and in the 21st minute got a corner, but Vinícius Júnior scattered the ball with a terrible move, for which he got his from Toni Kroos.
Three minutes later, these two footballers took the lead again: the German midfielder magical launch after Vinícius Junior he ran past all the defenders and then casually passed the ball into the net from 15 meters, which Manuel Neuer had actually never seen before in the match. 0–1
After the conceded goal, Bayern had another strong five minutes, but after that, Real pushed the ball away, although they could not create another scoring opportunity. In the 42nd minute, the home team unexpectedly had a promising opportunity after an unnecessary foul by Nacho Fernández, but Kane’s powerful free kick from 20 meters missed Lunyin’s goal.
After waiting for a while, Real got a free kick in the opponent’s penalty area, but it was even more harmless, the other Brazilian attacker, Rodrygo, bombed the ball into the line wall, and nothing came of the corner.
Tuchel was not satisfied with what he saw in the first half, so he took Leon Goretzka off the pitch during the break, and was replaced by Raphaël Guerreiro. No more exchanges took place prior to the change of field.
After the turn, Real had their first big chance, after a nice finish by Jude Bellingham, Kroos rolled the ball into the goal from 14 meters in the 51st minute, Neuer saved his compatriot’s attempt with a nice throw.
And then came a fabulous turn from the home team’s point of view!
Bayern immediately punished the missed opportunity, Sane tricked himself into the opponent’s penalty area in the 53rd minute, and then smashed the ball into the left side of the goal with great force from 16 meters, Lunyin should have blocked the shot coming into the short corner. 1–1
Three minutes later, Lucas Vázquez brought down Jamal Musiala completely unnecessarily in the penalty area, the rightful penalty awarded Kane sold extremely calmly in the 57th minute. 2–1
Real obviously tried to switch to a higher gear, but the guests’ goal was in danger in the 66th and 67th minutes, Antonio Rüdiger’s block helped the Spaniards after Kane’s shot, and then Lunyin caught Eric Dier’s close header.

In the 79th minute, Luka Modric, who entered the field as a substitute, served lavishly to Vinícius Júnior, who broke into the goal with great momentum, but Neuer closed the angle well, so the Brazilian attacker could not pass the ball past him.
