Increase in the flow of expatriate money into the country, announced the figures of the finance minister

Crores came to the country from expats last year. According to the latest data, there was a 12% increase in NRI remittances last year. With this, in 2022, non-resident Indians sent 100 billion dollars or 8,17,915 crore rupees to the country. The figures were released by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conference held in Indore.

Most of the money came to India mainly from countries like US, UK, Singapore, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The increase in expat remittances has been driven by more people moving from low-skilled informal jobs to higher-paying, more skilled jobs in the Gulf countries. With this, India became the first country in the world to receive such a large sum. The finance minister described the NRIs as the “true ambassadors of India”.
