This happened after it appeared in the Ukrainian press news of suspicious purchasesin which the Ministry of Defense bought the food needed to feed the soldiers at much higher prices: two to three times higher than in the store.

Edition At the disposal of “Zerkalo Week”. documents have arrived regarding food procurement concluded at the end of December for more than 13 billion hryvnias or more than 33 million euros.

The journalists compared the purchase prices included in the contract with food prices in a regular chain of grocery stores in Kyiv.

For example, eggs are sold in the store for 7 hryvnias (0.18 euros) per piece, but they are delivered to the army for 17 hryvnias (0.43 euros) per piece.

Potatoes can be bought in the store for 8-9 hryvnias (0.20-0.23 euros) per kilogram, but the army buys them for 22 hryvnias (0.55 euros) per kilogram.

Journalists discovered that the contract worth 13 billion hryvnias was concluded with the company “Aktiv kompani”, whose share capital is 1,000 hryvnias.

A month before the conclusion of the contract, Valerijs Meleš, who previously held positions in the structures of the Ministry of Defense, became the director of the company. Tetyana Sheremet, the founder of the company, was once engaged in the organization of procurement of the Ministry of Defense.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry by Bohdans Hmelnickis, Director of the Procurement Department.

Member of Parliament Radina reports that this new contract has not entered into force yet and food is delivered in accordance with the conditions of the previous contracts.

Experts will evaluate the contracts in order to discover possible gaps.

The Ministry of Defense has explained the high food procurement prices by the fact that they also include the provision of catering services to soldiers, including transport costs and inflation.
