In this hospital the thermometer reads 14°C

Winter is coming. In the Meaux hospital, in Seine-et-Marne, the formula has never been as topical as it is these days. While Île-de-France has recorded temperatures close to freezing in the morning in recent days, the establishment has not been able to warm patients and healthcare workers, reports FM TV Friday 9 December 2022. In doubt? Heating failures that multiply and an entire part of the building that struggles to heat up due to its degradation.

Concretely, the thermometer shows 14°C inside the hospital. It’s hell for patients. “In the patients’ rooms it’s a horror. My mother is 82 years old, she can’t move, so imagine how cold she can feel,” a woman explains to BFM TV.

The working conditions of nursing staff are also affected. An employee explains to BFM Paris-Île-de-France that she is “forced to work with gloves, a duvet and a fleece blanket over her legs”. The regional channel also reports the testimony of another Caregivers : “There’s no heating in building A. We’re tense all day, so all of a sudden it hurts all over. We have neck pain, headaches, migraines.”

These recurring heating problems are not going to be fixed. The deputy director of the hospital, Anne-Laure Dardenne, indicates that theHospital de Meaux “is a building that will be decommissioned at the end of 2024. We (…)
