Dr. Mahmoud Hamida, Professor of Neurology at Ain Shams University, and the first physician treating Moamen Zakaria revealed the details of his illness, explaining that his disease is a rare and uncommon condition, pointing out that this disease is in the nervous system, and that there are 5 thousand people with this disease in the world annually.
During a phone call to the “Tahrir Hall” program, presented by Azza Mustafa, broadcast on “Echo Al Balad” channel, Hamida stated that the disease appeared in large numbers of the forces participating in the Gulf War in 1991.
He explained that the disease affects the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, which leads to muscle atrophy, as it begins to bleed slightly, noting that there are billions of researches in order to find a cure for this disease.
