In the US, they created a beer that draws attention to the danger of hurricanes

“I thought of interesting ways to get the message out. So that even adults are interested,” David Amann, an emergency specialist from Dorchester, told the United Press International agency.

Beer with awareness is a partnership between Dorchester County and Charleston’s Tradesman Brewing Company. It’s called Know Your Zone and is available at select local grocery stores.

And how does golden mok convey information about hurricanes to customers? Each can contains a QR code that, when scanned with a smartphone, brings up a website with step-by-step instructions on how to stay safe before, during and after a natural disaster.

“The website will teach people how to get an emergency supply, how to make an emergency plan for the whole family, how to find an evacuation zone. All the necessary information is directly on the can, easily accessible via phone,” explained Amann to AccuWeather, who hopes that other districts will use a similar idea.

“We’re not trying to make it purely a Dorchester thing. We are glad that people like this initiative and we hope that it will inspire other crisis management departments as well,” he concluded.

Hurricane season in South Carolina runs from roughly the beginning of June to the end of November each year.
