In the new issue of “Libyan Affairs” magazine: The North is divided against itself and the South is without a state

Issue 26 of the magazine “Libyan Affairs” reviewed the various Libyan political bodies, including the House of Representatives, the Supreme Council of State, the National Unity Government headed by Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, and the parallel government headed by Fathi Bashagha. Researcher Najat Faqiri indicated in light of this presentation that all the bodies have expired, but their members are committed to Positions and the gains they bring. In this context, researcher Sami Al-Hajj Hassan wrote about the smuggling of money from Libya and the weakness of state control, pointing to the financial scandals that surface from time to time, related to the plundering of part of Libyan oil and gas revenues. The researcher revealed the fraudulent methods used by importers in Libya to cover up suspicious financial activities through documentary credits. According to expert Tom Togatend, public funds are still flowing from Libya abroad.

The new issue also touched on the external influences in the ongoing conflict in Libya since 2014, and the role of international and regional powers in supplying both sides with weapons and equipment, which threatens the separation between the West and the East, as well as the south (Fezzan and its capital, Sabha), which has been living without a state for years. Several researchers in this issue discussed various aspects of the delicate situation that Libya is going through, which almost erupted a new war after the entry of forces loyal to the parallel government into Tripoli last month. Among the book of the issue, issued by the “Maghreb Center for Research on Libya,” are Suhail Al-Lafi, Jean-Pierre Filiu, Rashid Khashana (director of the center), Ashour Al-Zintani, Shadi Hamid, Hakim Bin Hamouda, and Ramez Ramadan Al-Nuwaisri.
