The victory of the football players of Slovan Bratislava in Wednesday’s final of the Slovnaft Cup over Žilina (2: 1 after extra time) means that even this season the playoffs will be played in the Fortuna League for a place in the European Cup. In the 2020/2021 season, its winner will play for the first time in the 1st preliminary round of the UEFA European Conference League.
The play-off concerns the teams that will finish in the 4th – 7th place of the table after the last round of the superstructure part. The fourth team of the table, which will definitely be Žilina, will meet in the first semifinal with the seventh, resp. with the group winner for keeping up. It will be one of the Ružomberok – Sereď pair.
The fifth team of the table will challenge the sixth team in the second semifinal. In this case, it is already clear that ViOn Zlaté Moravce will meet with Trenčín. Both semifinals are on the program on Tuesday, May 25 at 19:00, the advantage of the home environment will have the teams that are higher in the table. The final will take place on Friday, May 28 at 7:00 p.m.
In the barrage for fortunaliga affiliation, the penultimate team of the Fortuna League table will meet the second team of the 2nd league, which is Banská Bystrica. The Michalovce team is currently in the penultimate place, but after the 32nd round there may be Senica or Pohronie. The play-off in the Fortuna League will be played in two matches, and Banská Bystrica will start on the home field.
