In the dark, parliament approved the budget update

Parliament unanimously adopted at second reading the updated framework of the state budget for 2021. It envisages BGN 2.5 billion more revenue and BGN 2.3 billion more for expenditures, mainly for measures related to the COVID crisis.

Seven million levs were set aside for additional remuneration for October, November and December for the employees of the Social Assistance Agency, the Employment Agency and the General Labor Inspectorate for work on the first line in the COVID-19 pandemic. The proposal was made by Denitsa Sacheva / GERB-UDF / and was supported by 188 MPs, 28 were “against” and 6 abstained.

Funds of up to BGN 224,035,600 are provided for the Ministry of Health for the purchase of additional quantities of vaccines against COVID-19, for the support of the first line workers in the fight against the pandemic, as well as for the provision of medicinal products for the treatment of COVID-19. 19. An additional BGN 16.6 million was allocated for the purchase of Remdesivir.

Parliament approved BGN 60,516 million to provide the agencies in the face of increased migratory pressure.

This happened after the deputies adopted texts from the update of the State Budget Act on second reading.

BGN 37 million are provided for the Ministry of Interior and BGN 22 million for the Ministry of Defense.

Despite the originally announced sitting until 10 pm, the National Assembly voted “for” the extension of today’s plenary sitting until the adoption of the update of the state budget for 2021.

The deputies agreed that their working day would be until 10 pm, but later decided otherwise.

BGN 133 million have been set aside in the budget for holding elections.

BGN 23 million were approved under the budget of the Ministry of Education and Science. BGN 15 million are for the state higher schools and BGN 8 million for the system of pre-school and school education according to an order determined by the Council of Rectors, respectively by the Minister of Education and Science.
