In the cozy universe of cats at the Montpellier SPA

She knows the names of the thirty or so cats who are waiting peacefully in the room dedicated to them. Normal, it is she who baptizes each of these kitties who arrive at the refuge, before offering them for adoption on social networks or the Montpellier SPA site.

“I have a book with many names of cats”, confesses Marie-France. And for good reason, the turnover is so high that it comes in and out very regularly, at least twenty each week.

The turnover of kittens

“The kittens usually leave very quickly. Most of the time we don’t even have time to post the ad on the internet”, she continues. That day, moreover, the tiny tabby which melts each visitor is about to leave, the time that his future masters sign the necessary documents.

For some older cats, however, the time seems longer in these two rooms where they watch potential adopters go by, installed in crates or on cushions. Just like 8-year-old Emi, who meows behind everyone, as if hoping to get their attention. From Smocky, pretty gray-blue, 4 years old. Or even Nestor, who arrived with his brother and adopted a first time before returning 24 hours later because “madam wanted it, not sir, he brought it back the next day”, over Marie-France.

She has a soft spot for Rebelle, a pretty little 8 month old cat, unfortunately very fearful; “she can only be adopted by someone who knows cats perfectly”, warns the volunteer.

Like dogs, cats are obviously cared for before being offered for adoption. Lima, a pretty 6-year-old tiger, will still carry with her her disease, a calicivirus that is transmitted between felines. “She just has to not be in contact with another cat. We had to separate her from the others”. So she waits in her cage. Hence the “SOS” launched by Marie-France.
