In the course of a large-scale special operation in the Sumy region, a criminal group was neutralized, which included about 50 people. The intruders were coordinated by “thieves in law” of the so-called Sukhum-Kutaisi clan, including from the territory of the Russian Federation. About this October 23 informs press service of the SBU.

It is noted that the members of the group tried to spread their criminal influence on the inhabitants of several regions of Ukraine, creating an extensive network of their cells.

The perpetrators intimidated citizens, terrorized entrepreneurs and “knocked out” money from them. The victims were subjected to psychological pressure, violence and threats of physical harm.

The leaders of the group sent the received sums to replenish the thieves’ “cash desk”. In addition, the criminals used the “profit” they received to support their convicted associates in places of imprisonment.

During investigative actions at the places of stay of the group members, law enforcement officers found: communication means, computer equipment and bank cards with evidence of illegal activity, master keys, “IOUs” of the victims, from which the attackers demanded money.

Three organizers of the group were notified of suspicion of extortion (part 2 of article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, establishing or spreading criminal influence (part 2 of article 255-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), fraud (part 2 of article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Investigative and operational actions are continuing to bring other participants in illegal activities to justice.
