in Strasbourg and on the roads, the prefecture prohibits the demonstration on Saturday February 19

On Friday February 18, 2022, the prefect of Bas-Rhin Josiane Chevalier banned the undeclared demonstration which must take place the next day, in several municipalities. The event must take the form of a road procession from Illzach, in the Haut-Rhin, towards Strasbourg.

On February 19, a demonstration in the continuity of the “freedom convoys” must take place in Strasbourg. A road procession, which will circulate at reduced speed, should leave the town of Illzach (Haut-Rhin) in the direction of the Alsatian capital. The Bas-Rhin prefecture banned this demonstration on Friday, February 18.

The ban is in force on the main roads, in both directions, from the entrance to the Bas-Rhin, in the direction of Sélestat and Strasbourg. The prefect indicates that “any gathering or demonstration on the public highway and the public road domain” is prohibited all day on February 19.

The prefecture specifies that a “specific device will be put in place to prevent the blocking of roads, verbalize and challenge offenders of this ban on demonstrations”.

According to information collected on social networks, a rally is planned for the beginning of the afternoon at the Parc de l’Etoile in Strasbourg. On Facebook, a thousand people have indicated an interest in it. It is supposed to be the second episode of the “demonstration for democracy”, which took place in Brussels at the end of January. The procession must connect Illzach, Colmar, Sélestat and finally Strasbourg.
