In New York, opening of the spectacular “The Edge” observatory

Perched 345 meters above the void, discover “The Edge”, New York’s new outdoor panoramic observatory. Located in the new Hudson Yards neighborhood in West Manhattan, it is the tallest of its kind in the Big Apple.

There are those places in the world where you have to take it literally. New York, the “Big Apple”, is one of them.

There was the Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building and the One World Observatory. Since March 11, 2020, the American megalopolis has been adorned with a new panoramic observatory: The Edge. Perched atop the 30 Hudson Yards Tower, in the new borough of the same name in western Manhattan, it is the city’s tallest outdoor panoramic observatory. On the 100th floor, 345 meters above the ground to be precise.

Glass floor

The Edge (“le bord” in French) is a triangular platform 24 meters in length. Part of the floor is a large glass pane, in order to offer the visitor a real feeling of height… and of emptiness. And if that wasn’t enough, 79 slanted glass panels were placed all around the structure so that the visitor could lean forward, admire… and still see the void up close. In short, an attraction not necessarily recommended for people with vertigo.

This observatory differs from its New York counterparts by its position. It is off the center of the area where all of the city’s major buildings are located, such as those mentioned above. Along the Hudson River, it offers a wide, unobstructed view of all of Manhattan and the bay. A real good spot for Instagramers!

And if the simple view is not enough for you, a bar-lounge-restaurant will open its doors on Thursday March 12, 2020 on the 101st floor of the building.
