To find the dromedaries, rhinos and lions of Lunaret Zoological Park, it will take a little more patience. For now only a small quarter of the great Montpellier zoo is accessible (free of charge) to the public. In question, an inspection which pointed out failures.
In the aisles, many visitors are delighted to find this 64 hectare lung, before being disillusioned:
“When we got here we saw the roads closed, the Amazonian greenhouse closed. We were a little disappointed.” – Denis
Henriette had come with children and grandchildren, but her visit was cut short:
“We came this morning to spend the day there but we have already seen the few animals that we could see.” – Henriette
Steven wanted to see the lions. Some regulars, like Clara, on the other hand prefer to look at things on the bright side:
“The animals that I prefer are the wild animals. So the closure doesn’t bother me. After that, it’s true that the most shy animals we don’t see anymore. – Clara
As for the metropolis, we justify this opening to a minimum by the precautionary principle.
In May, an inspection of state services pointed to shortcomings, both on animal welfare than on the management of visitor flows. A meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 31 between the management of the zoo, the services of the metropolis and the prefecture to consider compliance work. A prerequisite before the green light from the authorities.
In the meantime, this park – recognized Installation classified for the preservation of the environment (ICPE) – had to lower his gauge. At the entrance, the queues can be substantial on busy days.
And inside, space sometimes runs out, says Mireille:
“I surprised myself in the middle of lots of people. We found ourselves in single file, it’s a bit sad for a reopening. – Mireille
For now, no timetable is given for a lifting of restrictions within the site.
